Air Fryer Roast Chicken

Ingredients

  • 1 medium whole chicken - mine was 1.8kg - but anywhere between 1-2 kg should be fine
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 2 tsp cajun seasoning
  • 1 tbsp olive oil plus another drizzle for halfway through cooking

Method

  1. Drizzle the chicken with some olive oil and season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika and cajun seasoning, give it a good rub all over on both sides. You can also use different seasonings if preferred. For a roast dinner - use rosemary, thyme and sage instead - 1/2 tsp of each
  2. Cook at 180°C on the normal setting for 30 minutes (breast side down)
  3. Flip the chicken over carefully with some tongs, give it an extra drizzle of oil and cook for a further 30 minutes at 180°C
  4. Take out the chicken. If you have a probe, check that the temperature of the thickest part of the leg and breast is 74°C. If you don't have a probe, just ensure the juices are running clear and the meat is white not pink or red!
  5. If you have a larger chicken, it might need a little more time in the air fryer, just check after an hour and give more time if necessary. If its smaller it may only need 45-50 minutes - just check it as above!
  6. NOTE: Calories of course depend on if you eat the skin and how much you have, these calories are for a 100g portion of the white and dark meat (skin removed) as a guide for calorie content!
